Arrival in Bucharest: Where Legends Linger Beneath the Surface

Your journey begins in Bucharest — a city where grand boulevards and Belle Époque architecture conceal stories that refuse to stay buried.

Upon arrival, a private driver will be waiting to greet you and escort you directly to your charming hotel, allowing you time to settle in, unwind, and gently recover from your travels.

But even in these first quiet moments, Romania begins to reveal itself.

Bucharest is a city layered with history and haunted by its past. Beneath its elegance lie whispers of forgotten tragedies and lingering spirits. One of the most well-known tales surrounds the historic Cișmigiu Hotel — once abandoned, later repurposed, and now restored to its former grandeur. Yet despite its beauty, many believe something still lingers within its walls.

As evening falls, you’ll gather for a welcome dinner at Vatra Restaurant — one of the city’s most beloved traditional dining experiences.

Here, over rich Romanian cuisine, you’ll be introduced to the journey ahead. This is your moment to connect with fellow travelers, meet your hosts, and step fully into the world you’re about to explore.

Because from this point on…
you’re no longer just visiting Romania.

You’re stepping into its stories.

Bucharest Unveiled: Ghost Stories Beneath the City of Light

Today, Bucharest reveals its dual nature — elegant by daylight, and quietly haunted beneath the surface.

We begin with a guided walk through the heart of Bucharest, wandering its narrow Old Town streets and eclectic neighborhoods. Once known as “Little Paris,” the city’s architecture and atmosphere still echo with that refined past. But beyond the beauty lies something far more unsettling.

As you explore, you’ll uncover the darker stories woven into the city’s foundations — from a haunted orphanage to a hospital shadowed by disturbing rumors, to a casino where some say the spirits of former players still linger long after the final hand has been dealt.

Midday, we pause for lunch at Manuc's Inn — the oldest continuously operating inn in the city. Here, you’ll experience the rich blend of cultural influences that define Romanian cuisine. Poftă bună.

In the afternoon, you’ll have the option to step deeper into Bucharest’s mysteries with a visit to Bellu Cemetery — a sprawling, atmospheric resting place that has stood for nearly two centuries. More than a cemetery, it is a place of art, legend, and lingering presence, where history and the supernatural seem to blur.

For those who wish, the experience can take on a more interactive edge with an optional “Vampires vs. Hunters” game — a playful yet immersive way to engage with the lore that defines this region.

We return to Hotel Cișmigiu in the evening, where the stories of the day may feel just a little closer than before.

Because in Bucharest…
the past is never truly at rest.

Into the Carpathians: Castles, Legends, and the Road to Dracula

This morning, you leave the capital behind and journey deep into the Carpathian Mountains — where Romania begins to feel like something out of legend.

Your first stop is the breathtaking Peleș Castle, a fairytale palace nestled among forested peaks. Built for Romania’s first king, this Neo-Renaissance masterpiece is as innovative as it is beautiful — famously known as the first castle in the world to be fully powered by electricity. Inside, ornate halls and richly detailed interiors reveal a world of royal elegance, far removed from the shadows that await.

We pause for lunch at Restaurant Alex, where you’ll enjoy hearty Transylvanian dishes. Local tradition suggests garlic as protection against darker forces… and today, you may want to take that seriously.

As the journey continues, you’ll step into a place where modern pop culture meets centuries-old mystery at Cantacuzino Castle — known to many as the filming location for Nevermore Academy in Wednesday. Beyond its cinematic fame, the castle carries a far more unsettling reputation. Visitors have reported strange figures appearing in photographs, and the powerful family who once lived here is surrounded by stories of tragedy and unexplained deaths.

By evening, you arrive in the legendary region of Bran and check into Hanul Bran, a historic inn set along the famous Bran Pass. Once a refuge for weary travelers, it now offers a quiet retreat just steps away from one of the most infamous landmarks in the world.

Tonight, the air feels different.

Because just beyond the trees…
Dracula’s castle is waiting.

The Night of Dracula: Secrets, Shadows, and the Vampire Ball

Today unfolds at your own pace in the shadow of legend.

Spend your free time exploring the village of Bran, revisiting hidden corners, or simply soaking in the atmosphere of a place where history and myth are forever intertwined. Here, the story of Count Dracula collides with the real history of the fortress known as Bran Castle — a place both iconic and misunderstood.

But as the sun begins to set… everything changes.

Tonight, you are no longer just a visitor.

You are a guest of the Count.

Step inside Bran Castle for an exclusive, private Halloween experience — the legendary Vampire Ball, one of the most coveted events in Romania. Cloaked in candlelight and centuries of history, the castle opens its doors for an evening that blurs the line between fantasy and reality.

Your VIP “Count’s Guest Pass” grants you access to a fully immersive night:

Begin with a guided welcome tour through the castle’s corridors and courtyards, where shadows stretch long, and the atmosphere thickens with every step.

Then, gather for a lavish Vampire Gourmet Dinner — a themed feast where creatures of the night dine by flickering light, accompanied by wine and the quiet hum of anticipation.

As the clock strikes eight, the castle transforms.

The Vampire Ball begins.

Dressed in your finest (or most fearsome) attire, you’ll step onto the dance floor and into a night of music, movement, and mystery — surrounded by fellow revelers, all part of this unforgettable ritual.

But be warned…

As midnight approaches, the veil is said to thin. Whispers speak of the strigoi — restless spirits who wander when the night is at its darkest. And by 1 AM, the castle doors close… to those who remain inside.

Just a short walk away, Hanul Bran awaits your return.

If you choose to leave.

Because tonight…
the legend is no longer just a story.

Brașov & Sighișoara: Medieval Streets and the Legacy of Vlad

After a slow and well-earned morning, your journey continues into the heart of Transylvania’s medieval past.

In Brașov, you’ll walk through more than 800 years of living history — a former Saxon trading outpost surrounded by the dramatic peaks of the Carpathians. Its cobbled streets and colorful facades feel almost untouched by time… but as always in Romania, there’s more beneath the surface.

You’ll wander through some of the narrowest passageways in Europe, including the famous Strada Sforii, where the walls seem to close in with every step. At the imposing Black Church, you’ll uncover a pivotal chapter in the region’s religious history — a place marked by fire, transformation, and enduring mystery.

And woven into it all is the story of Vlad the Impaler — not just the figure of fear and legend, but a man whose life was shaped by power, passion, and rebellion. Here, even his more human stories begin to surface.

By afternoon, you’ll arrive in the storybook citadel of Sighișoara — one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe, and the birthplace of Vlad himself.

You’ll check into Hotel Central Park, where comfort meets tradition in the heart of this historic setting. As evening settles in, you’re invited to a Halloween feast at Joseph T — a warm and welcoming space offering both Romanian classics and international cuisine.

Tonight, surrounded by centuries-old walls and quiet lantern-lit streets, Sighișoara feels suspended in time.

And in a place like this…
history doesn’t just live on. It watches.

DAY 6: Nov. 1st, 2026 image

Sighișoara: Birthplace of Dracula and a Night of Shadows

Today, you step deeper into the legend — into a place where history and myth are forever entwined.

Welcome to Sighișoara, one of the most beautifully preserved medieval citadels in the world and a designated UNESCO treasure. Within its ancient walls, time seems to stand still. Towers rise above cobbled streets, hidden passageways wind between burgher houses, and ornate churches guard stories that have lingered for centuries.

It is here that Vlad the Impaler was born — the man whose legacy would echo across the world as the inspiration for Count Dracula.

As you explore the citadel on foot, you’ll uncover the layers of this extraordinary place — a town that has survived nearly untouched, where every corner feels like a page from a living history book.

The afternoon is yours to experience Sighișoara at your own pace. Wander the citadel, browse for unique souvenirs, enjoy a quiet drink in the square, or venture into the gothic cemetery for a more atmospheric exploration. You may also choose to attend a special presentation by Dacre Stoker, offering deeper insight into the enduring legend of Dracula, or visit the interactive exhibition Dracula: International Villain or Local Hero?

As evening approaches, you’ll gather for dinner at Casa Vlad Dracul — the very place believed to be Vlad’s birthplace. With a menu inspired by both history and literature, this experience sets the tone for what comes next.

Because tonight… you don’t just learn about the legend.

You investigate it.

During a private paranormal investigation inside Casa Vlad Dracul, you’ll spend two immersive hours exploring the building after dark. The atmosphere shifts, the silence deepens, and many believe something still lingers within these walls.

Some say the presence of Vlad himself has never truly left.

The question is…
will you feel it too?

Sacred Walls and Haunted Woods: From Biertan to Hoia Baciu

Today is a journey through contrasts — from sacred ground to one of the most infamous paranormal locations in the world.

Your morning begins in the quiet, storybook village of Biertan, nestled among rolling hills and vineyards. Founded in the 13th century, this peaceful setting is home to one of Transylvania’s most remarkable landmarks: the fortified church of Biertan.

Perched on a hill and surrounded by three layers of defensive walls, this UNESCO World Heritage Site stands as a symbol of resilience, faith, and centuries of history. Within its gates, time slows. The silence here feels sacred… almost protective.

But the day does not stay in the light for long.

By afternoon, you arrive in the vibrant city of Cluj-Napoca — often considered the cultural heart of Transylvania. Lunch at Garlic Bistro offers a modern take on regional cuisine, where local flavors meet contemporary creativity. And yes… the garlic makes another appearance. You may want the extra protection.

A short walking tour through the Old Town reveals the city’s layered past, from the grandeur of Bánffy Palace to the towering presence of St. Michael’s Church — reminders of a city shaped by power, art, and transformation.

You’ll check in to Hotel Beyfin, where modern comfort offers a brief moment of calm before the night ahead.

Because tonight… you step into the unknown.

As dusk falls, you enter the legendary Hoia Baciu Forest — often called the Bermuda Triangle of Romania. A place where stories of disappearances, unexplained phenomena, and sightings of strange lights have persisted for decades.

Guided by a local expert, you’ll walk through the forest as daylight fades, listening to accounts of those who have experienced the unexplainable here. Visitors have reported feelings of unease, sudden anxiety, electronic malfunctions… and the unmistakable sensation of being watched.

During your investigation, you’ll have the opportunity to explore, question, and experience this enigmatic place for yourself.

Is it folklore?
Is it something more?

Tonight…
you decide what you believe.

DAY 8: Nov. 3rd, 2026 image

Empires and Echoes: From Alba Iulia to the Shadows of Corvin Castle

Today, you walk through the foundations of a nation… and into the shadows of one of its most legendary strongholds.

Your journey begins in Alba Iulia, home to the magnificent Alba Iulia Citadel — a vast Vauban-style fortress that holds over 2,000 years of history within its walls. From ancient Roman roots to the defining moments of modern Romania, this citadel is considered the spiritual heart of the country.

As you explore its grand avenues and fortified gates, you’ll uncover stories etched into stone — including those hidden within the Roman Catholic cathedral, where the tombs of the builders of Corvin Castle quietly guard their legacy.

Lunch takes you beneath the surface at Pub 13, where you’ll dine in a medieval-style wine cellar — a setting that feels as though it belongs to another century.

But the true descent into legend begins in the afternoon.

You arrive at the imposing Corvin Castle — the largest medieval castle in Romania and one of the most striking in all of Europe. With its towering spires, Gothic-Renaissance architecture, and centuries of history, it feels less like a monument… and more like something pulled from a dark fairytale.

This is a place of powerful stories and lingering questions. Some believe that Vlad the Impaler was once imprisoned here — and that his presence never truly left. The castle’s reputation has made it a frequent setting for ghost documentaries and horror films, including The Nun.

After your guided exploration, the experience shifts.

As the castle closes to the public, you remain.

In the quiet that follows, you’ll have the rare opportunity to conduct a private investigation within its walls — free from crowds, free from distraction. The atmosphere changes. The silence deepens. And every sound begins to carry weight.

Later, you’ll check into Vila Corviniana, a charming Art Nouveau guesthouse just steps from the castle, where the echoes of the night may follow you back.

Because in a place like this…
some stories don’t end when the gates close.

DAY 9: Nov. 4th, 2026 image

Sibiu and the Transfăgărășan: Eyes That Watch and Roads That Rise

Today blends culture, mystery, and breathtaking landscapes into one unforgettable journey through the heart of Romania.

Your morning begins in Sibiu — a city rich in history, artistry, and quiet intrigue. Once the center of the Transylvanian Saxons, Sibiu has long been a cultural powerhouse, known for its vibrant squares, medieval walls, and architectural details that feel almost alive.

As you explore on foot, you’ll notice something unusual.

The buildings are watching.

With their distinctive “eyes” peering from the rooftops, Sibiu’s skyline carries an eerie charm that has inspired countless stories. You’ll wander through its grand squares, past historic churches, towers, and bastions, uncovering the layers of a city that has stood at the crossroads of culture and commerce for centuries.

From here, the journey turns toward the mountains.

Weather permitting, you’ll travel along the legendary Transfăgărășan Road — a winding alpine highway that cuts dramatically through the Carpathians. Once named the greatest road in the world by Top Gear, this route offers sweeping views, sharp turns, and a sense of adventure with every mile.

At the summit, you’ll arrive at Bâlea Lake, a glacial lake surrounded by towering peaks. Here, you’ll have time to explore, take in the crisp mountain air, and enjoy a relaxed lunch among local food stalls — a perfect moment to pause and absorb the beauty of the landscape.

Descending from the heights, you’ll make your way to Vidraru Lake, Romania’s largest artificial lake. Along the way, keep watch — this region is known for its wild inhabitants, and sightings of bears are not uncommon.

You’ll check into Posada Vidraru Hotel, a tranquil mountain retreat overlooking the lake. With access to spa and wellness facilities, this is your chance to unwind and reflect after days of exploration.

If conditions allow, a boat ride across the lake offers a peaceful, almost surreal perspective of the surrounding landscape.

As night falls, you’ll gather for a traditional Transylvanian feast by the fire — complete with mulled wine, local dishes, and the sharing of stories both real and imagined.

Because after everything you’ve experienced…
you may have a few tales of your own to tell.

Poenari Fortress: The True Castle of Vlad and the Climb Into Legend

Today, you don’t just visit history… you earn it.

Your journey leads to Poenari Fortress — the true stronghold of Vlad the Impaler. Unlike the castles of storybooks, this fortress is raw, remote, and fiercely authentic — perched high above the forested mountains.

To reach it, you’ll climb 1,476 steps.

Each step pulls you further away from the modern world and deeper into Vlad’s domain. The ascent is demanding, but the reward is undeniable: sweeping views of endless green peaks and a fortress that feels untouched by time.

Yet the beauty here carries a darker weight.

It is said that during an Ottoman siege, Vlad’s wife chose death over capture — throwing herself from the fortress walls. Even now, some claim her cries can still be heard echoing through the valley below.

After descending from the heights, you’ll stop for lunch at La Tuciuri, where traditional Romanian cuisine offers a grounded, comforting contrast to the intensity of the morning.

By evening, you return to Bucharest and check in to the historic Hotel Cișmigiu — a place as elegant as it is enigmatic. Built before World War I and restored to its former Belle Époque charm, the hotel carries its own collection of stories… some of which guests believe have never truly left.

Tonight, as your journey nears its end, the past feels closer than ever.

Because after standing where Vlad once ruled…
you don’t just know the legend.

You’ve walked it.

From Shadows to Ritual: Prisons, Power, and the Final Rite

Your final full day in Romania takes you into its most complex and unsettling layers — where history, darkness, and ancient ritual converge.

The morning begins with a descent into the past at Jilava Prison. Once part of a defensive fortress built by King Carol I, this site later became a prison used during the communist era to detain political opposition.

Inside its underground cells, the atmosphere is heavy. Stories of those imprisoned here linger in the silence — including Ion Rîmaru, known as the “Vampire of Bucharest,” who met his end within these walls.

This is not a place of legend.

It is real. And it stays with you.

From here, the journey shifts toward something older… and far more mysterious.

In the quiet village of Comana, you’ll visit Comana Monastery, a sacred site founded by Vlad the Impaler himself. Many believe this location holds deeper connections to his life — and perhaps even to his final resting place.

Lunch at Casa Comana offers a moment to gather, reflect, and experience the flavors of a region steeped in both history and legend.

But the day is far from over.

You’ll venture next to one of Romania’s most enigmatic locations — the Witches’ Pond. Hidden and rarely visited by locals, this site carries a powerful reputation. It is said that witches from across Romania and beyond come here to perform rituals, drawn by the belief that the energy of this place amplifies intention.

Reaching the pond requires a more rugged journey… but what awaits is unlike anything else on this itinerary.

Here, you’ll take part in a ritual experience — one that connects you to the deeper, unseen traditions of this land.

Because in this place, there is a belief:

To receive something… you must first offer something in return.

As night falls, you return to Hotel Cișmigiu for one final gathering.

Your farewell dinner takes place at Excalibur, a medieval-style feast where knights and nobles once again come together — this time to celebrate the journey you’ve shared.

Stories will be told. Glasses will be raised.

And as the evening comes to a close…

you may realize something has shifted.

Because Romania doesn’t just give you memories.

It leaves something with you.
